Starpoint - Topic

Rooted in J.R. & the Royals, a band that dates back to the late '60s, as well as later incarnation Licyndiana, Starpoint took flight following the signing of a contract with Chocolate City. From 1980 through 1982, the band -- Renée Diggs, Kayode Adeyemo, Marvin Ennis, and Phillips brothers Ernesto, George, Gregory, and Orlando -- recorded four albums for Cecil Holmes' Casablanca sublabel Chocolate City Records.

Their first Billboard hit "I Just Wanna Dance with You" debuted on Billboard's R&B chart in July 1980 and peaked at number 19. Subsequently, the band signed with the late Neil Bogart's Boardwalk Records then signed with Elektra Records, after Neil Bogart's passing, where they scored (7) additional Top Ten R&B singles including the crossover hit "Object of My Desire" featured in the Netflix Series Stranger Things 4 in 2022.

Additionally, Marvin Ennis and Ky Adeyemo penned top Billboard hits for other artists including Milli Vanilli's "Girl You Know It's True" [Arista Records], E.U.'s "Taste Of Your Love" [Virgin Records] and Sweet Sensation's "Bring It Back" [Atlantic/Atco Records]. The band performs its dynamic "Danceable 1 Tour" these days and has recorded a brand new album with (3) new dynamic female vocalists who pay tribute to the late Renee Diggs in their 75-minute tour set.
